This coming Christmas marks the 24th year that the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program (CCHP) will provide hampers for families struggling to make ends-meet.  In 2014 the CCHP handed out close to 300 hampers that included non-perishable food, sundries and gifts.  These hampers helped make the Christmas season a happy time for more than 600 local residents who might not otherwise be unable to enjoy that time of year.

It is our mission to extend ourselves and serve the underprivileged, struggling individuals and families in Cloverdale in a practical way during a joyful, yet challenging season.  This is acommunity effort that relies on the generous support of individuals, schools, businesses and churches in our area.  Without the assistance of community-minded individuals, we would not have the opportunity to let those that receive hampers know that they have not been forgotten.

The Hamper Program team is evolving this year.  Kevin and Trish Lunder have faithfully served for the past four years as directors over the program.  Kevin has decided to transition from his leadership role during the 2015 program in order to manage The Lunder's growing real estate business.  Trish will remain in the same capacity as she liaises with applicants and organizes hamper-day communications.  We are all grateful for all that Kevin and Trish have accomplished in the years they have been in leadership with the program.

In order to aid in Kevin's transition, the Hamper Program will be developing a team that will carry on the important work of planning the 2015 program.  For the first time we are looking for up to two individuals able to dedicate approximately 20 hours per week for 4-5 weeks surrounding Hamper Day (Dec 19th).  This will be paid position that will require the individual(s) to be a part of the hamper team and work with Kevin in-particular, to learn and carry-out many of the tasks that he undertakes each year.  These tasks include organizing volunteers, arranging warehouse set-up, liaising with community donors, arranging food donation pick-ups and purchases, managing the filling of hampers and other duties.

Flexibility/availability between November 30 and December 22 (and availability to communicate and attend meetings from Sept to Nov),

  • Desire to work as a part of a team,
  • Ability to do some heavy lifting,
  • Strong communication competence,
  • Strengths in volunteer management, and
  • An eye for detail/organization...

The next Hamper Program Team meeting will be held on Monday September 14th; 6:30pm at Pacific Community Church.  If you are interested in learning more about how to join the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Team and what these positions involve, or if you plan to attend the meeting, please contact Taya Vantol
